With the Edit Node Tool still selected, Click on that center node, and go to the upper bar, where you see the options for editing nodes. The hat’s node between the eyes is a corner node, and there is a sharp cornere there. While the Edit Nodes Tool is selected, you will click on one node at a time and pull it into various positions–until you like your hat. With the hat triangle still selected, choose the Edit Nodes Tool from the Left Tool Box.Ī group of editing nodes will appear on the hat. From the Drop-Down Menu, Choose Object to Path. With the Hat Triangle Selected, Go to the Top Horizontal Bar, the Menu Bar, Choose the tab Path. Place your mouse on the side, central bounding arrow and push inward. A bounding box will appear around the triangle. To narrow the triangular hat, choose the Select Tool and Select the triangle. If you draw upward, the triangle will be drawn with the point at the top.īefore you draw the triangle, select the polygon tool as above and Shift-Click black to set the Stroke.įrom the bottom color palette, choose the color red. Note: If you draw downward, the triangle will appear as it does in the above frame. Use the Polygons Tool to Create Triangles. To select either the Polygon or the Star tool, you have to first select the Stars & Polygons Tool from the Tool Box on the left and also go to the top to the Tool Controls on the upper horizontal bar and specify which of the two options that you want. Draw upwards from the bottom of one of the legs to its top.Īdd the darkest brown to the node that is blue.įrom the Tool Box on the Left, Choose the Stars & Polygons Tool Here is the newbie: We’ll apply gradients to all 4 legs at one time. We’ll shade them the same way that we did the neck. Now, we’ll add linear gradients to the 4 legs. Pull the gradient from the middle of the body to the outside, and add the darkest brown to the outer node. With the Select Tool, click on the body rectangle. Now, we want to add a gradient to the body. I want the shadow to extend a bit farther, and I pulled the gradient handle down below the bottom of the rectangle. Add the darkest brown color to that node.īecause the head is above and hanging over the neck, the top of the neck will be in the darkest shadow. When the color behind the rectangle is white, you will see white peeking through there.īe sure that the top node is selected. When the color behind the gradient is green, you will see green peeking through there. As the gradient moves upward, the color becomes more and more transparent. With the linear gradient and the neck rectangle chosen, drag the gradient from the bottom of the rectangle to the top. This time, we will use the Linear Gradient. With the Select Tool, click on the neck’s rectangle. This time, add the darkest brown color to the bottom stop. With the Select tool, select the dark triangleĬlick on the gradient tool again, and again, choose the radial gradient. Now, we’ll add a gradient to the darker part of the head. To reduce the amount of the darkness, pull the gradient handles farther outside of the triangle. Be sure that the bottom gradient stop is selected and choose the next to the darkest brown for that stop #552200 The Gradient stop that is selected will be blue. Beside the word “New,” select the second box, which is the Radial Gradient. When you choose the Gradient Tool, you will see the Gradient Options in the horizontal menu at the top. The Gradient Tool is used to shade shapes with graduated coloring from color to color and/or from opaque color to transparency. On the Tool Box, which is on the Left, choose the Gradient Tool. When it is selected, a bounding box will surround the triangle. With the Select tool, click on the light brown triangular head. In the layers menu, turn off the visibility of the dark part of the head. Go back to the Edit Menu, click Paste in Place. The layer will turn blue, indicating that it has been selected. Now, we want to paste the dark part of the head in the layer that we created for it. When you look at the head, you will see that the dark part of the head is gone. With the Select Tool, click on the dark part of the head triangles. We want to separate the dark part of the head from the light part.Ĭlick on the + at the bottom of the Layers Menu. Some of the skills mentioned here are taught in the previous reindeer exercise.Ĭlick the eyeballs next to all of the layers except the Head and the Background. Before you can do the gradients exercises in this post, you need to create the Reindeer Here
